Introduction
The Recycling Competition for Schools (PerKISS) was introduced in 2014 with the participation of schools under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) throughout Malaysia.
PerKISS evaluates several key criteria, such as the weight of collected recyclable materials, the commitment, initiative and innovation of school communities in encouraging student participation in the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) cultural activities, and the innovation of recycled items made from used materials.
Indirectly, students are exposed to 3R practices, environmental conservation issues, the importance of addressing solid waste management problems and overcoming pollution caused by improper solid waste disposal.
Objectives
• To provide a platform for schools to lead 3R practices in local communities.
• To educate students to value solid waste as an economic resource and artistic value; and
• To instill a culture of environmental cleanliness through the practice of 3R among school communities.
