8,194.1 KG OF FOOD AND BEVERAGES SAVED FROM WASTE

The MySaveFood Ramadan 2025 campaign successfully prevented a total of 8,194.1 kilograms of food and beverages from being discarded into landfills through a 14-day programme held from 11 to 24 March 2025 across four Ramadan bazaars in the state.

The participating bazaars were the MITC Ramadan Bazaar, Peringgit, Jasin Bestari, and Alor Gajah. The programme aimed to minimise food and beverage wastage at Ramadan bazaars, whereby volunteers collected surplus food from traders. All collected items were recorded, weighed, and subsequently distributed to identified target groups in need.

The highlight of the programme was the presence of YBrs. Tuan Khalid bin Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of SWCorp, who engaged with traders and visitors, distributed reusable bags, and presented certificates of appreciation to the volunteers involved.

The initiative was implemented with the collaboration and support of various agencies, including the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ), Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), Madrasah Al-Hadith, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Bukit Beruang Community College, as well as residents of PPR Sungai Putat and PPR Tehel.

The campaign will continue to be organised annually during the month of Ramadan to encourage greater participation from traders in supporting the MySaveFood initiative as a key step towards environmental sustainability. It is hoped that this campaign will further enhance public awareness of the importance of preventing food and beverage wastage and reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills.
